We started school this week, and we finished the summer having provided 707 backpacks to underprivileged students in Massachusetts. This was a new record, beating 702 in 2014. Thanks again to all our donors for staying loyal to us for so many years, and good luck to our new directors, Noel Gridley and Aryana Moghaddam, in continuing this fulfilling work in 2017!
Yesterday we delivered 9 backpacks to lucky kids at Family Promise Metrowest, and we got to meet two of them. They were very cute and appreciative, eager to play with their new crayons and construction paper. Today we finally finished packing the last 200 backpacks and started final inventory because it's almost time for back to school!
Today, BHCHP picked up 125 backpacks, Iglesia Fuente de Vida Eterna picked up 30, and we delivered 42 to Needham Housing Authority. We also finished packing, bringing us to a total of 707 backpacks packed this summer! There are still hundreds of backpacks to be distributed in the next week.
Yesterday, Wediko Children's Services came to pick up their 55 new backpacks stuffed with supplies, and we packed 50 for Cathedral High School. Today, we delivered another 49 to Wellesley Housing Authority and had a very successful shopping trip. Tomorrow, we'll be packing 42 for Needham Housing Authority, 100 for BHCHP, and 10 for another small organization. We are also still seeking new donors for this summer, as we hope to donate more than 700 backpacks in the next two weeks! After delivering to Natick Service Council this morning, we have officially delivered 125 backpacks and packed another 103. Yesterday we delivered 75 backpacks to SMOC, finished packing 50 backpacks for Natick Service Council, and packed another 50 for Wediko Children's Services. We packed until the highlighter bin was empty.
Pictured: Charlie Allen, Will Brown, Kerri Brown, Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Belle, Spider-Man, and Meredith Allen at the SMOC delivery. With three shopping trips and many supply deliveries in the past week, we were eager to finally get to work. We packed 75 backpacks for Southern Middlesex Opportunity Council today. We really enjoy packing backpacks for SMOC because the organization provides us with some of the favorite colors and characters of the kids, so we can try to personalize the backpacks and supplies to each student. Some of our favorite character recommendations from today included: Finding Dory, dinosaurs, princesses, Frozen, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, and Paw Patrol. The highlight of today was receiving a box filled with 540 rulers, if you can believe such a thing happens here.
